The Labour Day Classic began as the Prince George to Boston Marathon, a 17-mile road race from Salmon Valley into the city.
The race has the distinction of being the event that convinced Terry Fox to embark on his Marathon of Hope (click here for full details).
PGRR’s Board of Directors voted unanimously in favour of acquiring the Labour Day Classic in the fall of 2019, when there were concerns the race would disappear from the Prince George landscape.

Update for 2026
This is the reworked Labour Day Classic Race. For 2026 we will have full and half-marathon distances! There is no longer a banquet and awards ceremony but we will be having all this fun right at the end of the race!
Whether you’re joining us for the season or just interested in coming out for one or two of our race events, we’re happy to have you run with us! Everyone – members and non-members – are welcome to register for any or all of our races.

Online Pre-Registration closes on 2026-09-04 at 11:59 PM.
In person registration will be available at race package pickup (see date/time below).
Registration is NOT available on the race day.
Race package pickup is on 2026-09-05 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Civic Centre. We strongly recommend you pick up your race package on this day. We are volunteers hosting this event and have limitations in what we can accomplish on race day. For some limited exceptions, race package pickup will be available on race day at the race start area: 7:00 – 7:30 for Full Mathon 42 km; & 7:30 – 8:00 AM for all other distances. The deadline for each will not be extended.
Please show up at least 30 minutes before your event on race day.
New Route Description Since 2025
- Starting at the Ice Oval, travel north to 18th Avenue.
- Travel west on 18th Avenue (south side gravel shoulder) to Foothills Blvd, and clockwise through the roundabout on the sidewalk.
- Travel north on Foothills Blvd (west side sidewalk) to the north side of University Way.
- Turn west up University Way traveling along the sidewalk to Ceremonial Rd; cross University Way at the crosswalk to the Multi-use Path (MUP).
- Travel along the Tyner Blvd MUP to Ospika Blvd.
- Travel north on Ospika Blvd (west side sidewalk) to Hopkins Rd.
- Travel west on Hopkins Rd (south side), continuing north on Christenson Rd (west side) to Ferry Avenue.
- Travel east on Ferry Avenue (north side closed slow lane) to Ospika Blvd.
- Travel north on Ospika Blvd (west side sidewalk) to Massey Dr.
- Travel west on Massey Dr (south side sidewalk) to Coyle St; cross Massey Dr at the crosswalk; travel east on Massey Dr (north side sidewalk) returning to Ospika Blvd.
- Travel north on Ospika Blvd (west side sidewalk) to the north side of the CN Centre access.
- Travel west along the Ospika access (north side pathway) to the west side of the first intersection.
- Travel north along the 18th Ave access (west side paved shoulder) to 18th Avenue.
- Travel west on 18th Avenue (south side gravel shoulder) to Foothills Blvd, and clockwise through the roundabout on the sidewalk.
- Travel north on Foothills Blvd (west side sidewalk) to the north side of University Way.
- Travel north on Foothills Blvd (west side closed slow lane) to North Nechako Rd.
- Travel west on North Nechako Rd (south side bike lane) to City limits (where the asphalt ends).
- Turnaround; travel east on North Nechako Rd (south side bike lane) to Foothills Blvd.
- Travel south on Foothills Blvd (west side closed slow lane) to 18th Avenue, and counterclockwise through the roundabout on the sidewalk.
- Travel east on 18th Avenue (south side gravel shoulder) to Exhibition Park access to the Ice Oval.
