In the spring of 2013, Prince George lost a great man. Joe Kelly was a husband, father, friend, and incredible running enabler to many. The Joe Kelly Memorial Run is put on by the Kelly family, along with the PG Road Runners, in order to honour the memory of Joe in an encouraging and friendly atmosphere. Further, this event raises donations for The Right to Play Canada, an organization that Joe supported.

The Joe Kelly Memorial run is an annual event. To that end, instead of a race-style event, we offer you three lengths of group runs lead by experienced local runners. Each length, which are all in time rather than distance, will take place on both road and trail (unless there is too much snow on the trails). In addition, there will also be a half hour family walk through the Otway trails. All group run start times are listed above, with all ending around noon for a free lunch and socializing inside the Otway ski lodge.

Trails:

The singletrack trails around Otway can be challenging. The shorter group runs will stay on the lower trails in order to keep the run easier for the enjoyment of all. The longer group runs, especially the 2 hour run, will head onto the Greenway trail which is a rolling, wide trail. All trail runs are subject to weather. This is Prince George, so If there is enough snow the trail runs may not take place.

Roads:

Otway Road is a relatively easy road to run with gravel shoulders. For the longer group runs, there is the possibility of running up Catherine Road which is a decent climb and decent.

  • As per PGRR Club policy, both headphones and pets are not permitted on course during the event.
  • This is not a race! These are casual, social group runs that are based on time, not distance.
